Sangram Keshari Senapati's Contribution to Wikimedia Movement in 2023-24

Sangram Keshari Senapati's Contribution to Wikimedia Movement in 2023-24

I have been writing on Odia Wikipedia since 2014, and since 2017, I have been writing for #100wikidays. In February 2024, I completed this 25th time. During that time, I had published a blog on Diff about my journey.

Link: https://diff.wikimedia.org/2024/02/25/marking-the-25th-round-of-my-100wikidays-writing-adventure-on-odia-wikipedia/

I write blogs on Diff and other platforms to highlight the contributions of fellow volunteers. I record podcasts with the volunteers from Odia and other community members regarding their work and other things. Here are a few links.

I have written a few articles in local (Odia language) newspapers regarding the Wikimedia movement. Apart from this, in collaboration with the PR team from WMF, I wrote and translated a few articles to get published. A few articles in the local newspapers were published through my contacts.

Apart from Wikipedia, I contribute to Odia Wikisource, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons. With more than 400K edits on Wikidata, I focus more on updating labels in Odia language and creating items about the Odia language film industry and actors. I usually collect signatures, photographs, and videos of notable personalities from different events I attend and upload those to the Commons. Most of them are being used by various media and publication houses.

I have been organizing different online edit-a-thons in collaboration with the global team and local edit-a-thons, limited to Odia Wikipedia only. A few highlights from the year 2023-present, are mentioned below:

  1. I have organized 11 edit-a-thons including a few local edit-a-thons only on Odia Wikipedia. The first edit-a-thon, “Feminism and Folklore 2023”, was a global edit-a-thon that started on 1 February 2023 and ended on 15th April 2023. Apart from organizing, I have participated as a volunteer and contributed a few articles along with the jury job. I have been organizing this edit-a-thon continuously since 2020.

  1. Apart from organizing the “Feminism and Folklore 2023” edit-a-thon, I organized a half-day-long workshop for the new volunteers by the sport of the edit-a-thon team. Seven volunteers joined this mini-workshop, and a few of them are contributing to Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons.

  1. 2024 begins with a big collaboration with the Government. of Odisha. The government officials invited the Odia Wikimedians User Group to participate in the “World Odia Language Conference 2024." There, we got a stall to present about Wikipedia and showcase our work to the public for 6 days. I was a part of the members, and we conducted a survey regarding Wikipedia among visitors, where some administrative officers and eminent personalities from various fields like entertainment, literature, business, etc. filled out that form. Apart from that, we had developed a timeline to showcase at the Future of Dome at the Odia Language Conference.

Recover Gmail and YouTube Account from Hackers

If your Gmail account is hacked and you have some videos on YouTube, then you can get your channel and Gmail back within 24 hours by taking the help from TeamYouTube.

It's not easy to recover the Gmail id directly, but the TeamYouTube is quite active on X (formyl known as Twitter). My Gmail was hacked on 14 June 2024. They changed my recovery email id, phone number and everything. They added 2-step verification and logged out from all logged in devices.

I tried all methods to recover my Gmail id, but there were no ways. Even I emailed to the Google support team, but there was no response. So, I finally put a tweet to the YouTube India and TeamYouTube responded on Twitter. After I following them, they send me a direct message and took another contact email id and they send me a link (personalized link) to fill some details. After filling all the details, they emailed (we can't use that email or can't reply to that email) me and within 10 hours, they send me a link to change the Gmail password. Quickly, I typed the password and confirmed the password by re-entering.

Boom... I got the Gmail id and logged in to my email and changed other details they had added. To get the YouTube account, it took a few hours, and everything is fine from then.

High Heel

High Heel
Short English Story High Heel by Sangram Keshari Senapati

Banya is the only daughter of Mishra Babu. She has a smiling face and that cuteness attracts everybody since childhood. Everything was going well for her, except for one thing; after drinking lots of complan, her height was not growing. Since childhood, she had a weakness for height, so she was thinking to wear high heels to look tall. But wearing such high heels may cause health issues, and for that reason Mishra Babu never allowed her.

During her college time, she used to wear the heels of her roommate and those days were the best days of her life. After completing her master's, within a few days, her marriage was fixed with someone. The height of that guy is quite taller than her and it was like the dream come true, so she said yes to that marriage.

After marriage, when she was selecting marriage photographs for the photo frames, she realized something and felt sad. Height is her weakness, but standing next to a tall guy reflects her shorter. For that reason, she didn't choose the standing images of both.

A few days after their marriage, it was Valentine's Day. She didn't have any experience with this celebration, but in the morning her husband presented her with something and asked her for a dinner date.

Within these days, both husband and wife were figuring out the life of each other and he might have figured out her biggest weakness and presented her with a pair of high heels.

"What is Shubhapallaba?" answers by ChatGPT-4

Sangram Keshari Senapati April 02, 2023 0
"What is Shubhapallaba?" answers by ChatGPT-4
"What is Shubhapallaba?" answers by ChatGPT-4

I asked the question to GPT-4 on Poe about Shubhapallaba and the two paragraphs are the answers without any extra feeding.

Shubhapallaba is an online Odia literature platform and e-magazine based in Odisha, India. It primarily focuses on promoting Odia language and literature by providing a platform for writers, poets, and artists to showcase their work. The platform publishes a variety of literary content such as poems, short stories, essays, and articles related to Odia culture, traditions, and history. The e-magazine is published periodically and features works from both established and emerging writers in the Odia language.

The goal of Shubhapallaba is to encourage the growth and appreciation of Odia literature, foster a sense of pride in the language, and inspire the younger generation to engage with their cultural roots. By providing an accessible online platform for creative expression, Shubhapallaba plays a vital role in preserving and promoting the rich literary tradition of Odisha.

Best e-Magazine Award for Shubhapallaba

Sangram Keshari Senapati February 16, 2023 0
Best e-Magazine Award for Shubhapallaba
Sangram Keshari Senapati receiving the Best e-Magazine award for Shubhapallaba

"Receiving an award can be a significant achievement and a source of recognition and validation for our work." Some people may not like this, but I don't deny receiving any.

On 20 December 2017, when I thought about starting this magazine I called and tried to contact lots of people for the articles, some people agreed, but lots of denied to send their articles because I had no experience in editing and it was a new magazine. Yes, the time changed now, and we are getting more than enough stories, poems, essays, etc for the magazine. I'm really sorry for not putting everything in the magazine and not selecting lots of articles for every edition.

For this selection reason, lots of writers and poets are not happy with the Shubhapallaba team, but when we are getting a call from a new reader who appreciates the design and the selection of articles, we feel extremely happy in our hearts.

Initially, in 2018 we published more than 85 articles in every edition, but later we choose from them to put the best. Yes, I love my stories and in my opinion, those are the best in the world, but others may not like it. I have to accept that. And I'm requesting every writer to have patience and respect the views of others.

Why did the magazine's name change to Shubhapallaba?

On the very 1st day, I got the name 'Nabapallaba' from the tweet of Nidhi Aja, but later we came to know about another magazine with the same name, so after discussing it with lots of friends, finally got this name Shubhapallaba suggested by the teacher of my father Pandit Bhagirathi Nanda Sharma.

Almost everybody liked this name and after the 2nd edition, we officially changed the name to Shubhapallaba. Initially, that name reached lots of people, but we have to accept the bitter truth.

Why I changed the design of Shubhapallaba?

While doing the same thing for more than 4 years, I was trying to improve the full structure and design was the 1st approach. Before this design in 2022, I started another e-magazine named Shubhodaya and that was the place for the experiments. During that time, I tried colorful backgrounds, images inside articles, etc., and readers liked that design. So, I copied that design on Shubhapallaba e-Magazine as well as on the Odia Portal also.

At the beginning of 2022, after publishing two of our books under Shubhapallaba Publication, I learned a little more about Adobe InDesign and designed the 2nd edition (yearly edition) of Shishupallba or Shubhapallaba Sishuraija. Later in October 2022, we permanently shifted to InDesign.

The editorial board of Shubhapallaba 44th Edition and the editorial page was written by Sangram Keahari Senapati.

Lots of people called me personally after going through the 43rd edition in October 2022 during Durga Puja. And everybody appreciated the new design and some of them also compared it with the big magazines. We are not in that position to be compared with those big magazines, but those words really inspire us to do more.

At the end of 2022, I was felicitated by the Jatiya Kabi Lekhaka Sangathana, Bhadrak as the best editor for Odia magazine. I was really happy that day to receive the award from Prasanna Kumar Patasani and Sangram Acharya.

On 12 February 2023, Pritipranati Literary Family awarded Shubhapallaba with the Best Odia e-Magazine award. I was really happy to receive this award from Debabrata Barik because there was a time when I was designing the editions of the Priti Pranati e-magazine and this felt like receiving appreciation from the family.

Leaving a Moment for life while sharing a Maggi Plate

Leaving a Moment for life while sharing a Maggi Plate
Leaving a Moment for life while sharing a Maggi Plate

It was a cold and misty morning when a young couple, Sahir and Khusi, decided to go on a hike to the top of the hills. They had heard about a beautiful viewpoint that offered a panoramic view of the valley below and they wanted to see it for themselves.

As they walked through the dense forest, they chatted and laughed, enjoying each other's company. The trail was steep and rocky, but they didn't mind. They were in good spirits, and the thought of reaching the viewpoint kept them going.

After a couple of hours of hiking, they finally reached the top. They were greeted with a breathtaking view of the valley below. The mist had lifted, and the sun was shining, casting a warm glow on the landscape. They sat down on a rock and took it all in, feeling a sense of awe and wonder.

As they sat there, admiring the view, Sahir remembered that he had brought a pack of Maggi noodles with him. He suggested to Khusi that they make some hot Maggi to enjoy while they took in the view. Khusi agreed, and they set to work.

They boiled water in a small pot, and then added the Maggi noodles and seasoning. The smell of the hot Maggi wafted through the air, making their mouths water. They sat on the rock, eating their hot Maggi and chatting, feeling content and happy.

As they finished their Maggi, they looked at each other, and knew that this moment was one they would never forget. They had shared a simple meal together, in a beautiful and peaceful place, and they were grateful for the experience.

They stayed on the top of the hill for a while longer, taking in the view and enjoying each other's company. Finally, they packed up and headed back down the trail, feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. They knew that they would come back to this place again, and they would always remember the time they shared a hot plate of Maggi on the top of the hills.

Pathan Trailer Review

Sangram Keshari Senapati January 10, 2023 0
Pathan Trailer Review
Pathan Starring SRK, Deepika and John Abrahm

I recently watched the trailer for the upcoming movie "Pathan," starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham. And I have to say, I am excited about its release.

The trailer sets the tone for an action-packed and thrilling film, with Shah Rukh Khan playing a secret agent. The visuals are stunning, and the action sequences are intense and well-choreographed. Shah Rukh Khan's portrayal of a suave and skilled agent is spot-on, and it's clear that he has put in a lot of effort to perfect his character.

The trailer also hints at an interesting storyline, with the character of Shah Rukh Khan on a mission to take down a dangerous organization. The pacing of the trailer is fast, and it keeps the audience engaged throughout. The background score is also noteworthy, adding to the overall intensity of the trailer.

The supporting cast also looks promising, with actors like Deepika Padukone and John Abraham making appearances in the trailer. Their inclusion adds to the excitement and anticipation for the film.

In conclusion, the trailer for "Pathan" has left a strong impression on me, and I am eagerly awaiting the release of the film. Shah Rukh Khan's performance and the action-packed storyline make for an exciting and engaging watch.

We organized Wikimania 2022 at Bhubaneswar

Sangram Keshari Senapati September 07, 2022 0
We organized Wikimania 2022 at Bhubaneswar
We organized Wikimania 2022 at Bhubaneswar

Wikimania is the Wikimedia Foundation's yearly celebration. After the COVID19 Pandemic, it was not physically possible, so we were given the opportunity to organize it locally in India this year. There were four events held in India, and we were one of them.

How it was started?

It was started on the 3rd of June 2022 with a call from Sailesh Patnaik. In the afternoon, Sailesh called me and asked me to apply for a grant to organize an event on behalf of Odia Wikimeidans User Group and he sent me two references.

There were just two hours to write, review and apply. So I just copied the budget from the 2018 event organized by Diptiman Bhai and increased it a little bit and sent him for a quick review. Then changed the status from draft to proposed.

Grant Approval:

It was the 4th of July, Sailesh messaged me to check my e-mail and also told me that, someone from the WMF team would contact me regarding the grant.

Immediately, I checked the e-mail and yes, our grant was approved. Then the process of conversation started and we started calling our fellow wikimedians of Odia and Santhali community.

The whole process took such a long time and by that time, I went to Delhi for some work. I was in Delhi, and at that time I got another e-mail and also a message from Rachit for a small meeting with the media team of WMF.

I was unable to attend that meeting at that time due to my work time, so I seek help from Chinmayee Mishra (Chinu) and Subhasish Panigrahi (Subha bhai). They both saved me that day and within two to three days, we got the grant amount in the bank account.

Meeting with the Media Team of WMF

Event date Finalization:

After the approval of the grant, we had an online session with each other on Bahuda Yatra and finalized the date for the 13th and 14th of August. Most of us agreed on that day and the venue was decided for Bhubaneswar.

After receiving the grant amount, there was not much time for the event, and in the meantime, I was not here in Odisha. So, again Chinu was there to rescue me. She came to Bhubaneswar and started looking for the venue and after looking for more than 12 places within two days, we were confused with that exact place as per our budget.

During that time, I got another message from Rachit, that Dr. Manavpreet Kaur from the WMF would join us during the event. I met Manav in 2018 for the 1st time and then we met two more times. So, Manav helped us during the whole event.

They both decided on the venue and Chinu also called everyone to confirm their arrival. The next of our event was Independence day in India, so most of our friends couldn't come. So, we had planned for an online session for them also.

In the meantime, we took help from Subha bhai for the T-Shirt design, and Chinu also shorted that tension. Gyana bhai was also there in Bhubaneswar and they both had fixed almost everything.

The Day before the Event:

Everything was finalized for the event and Manav mam was coming in the morning on the 12th of August. Almost all was going well, but heavy rainfall started. That day Manav and Chinu did lots of work in that heavy rainfall.

I reached in the evening and by that time they both had finished almost everything. And I met both after almost three years. There were some other works to finish, so Chinu left for that and I joined Manav for to buy some gifts for the Guests. After that, we walked a few (kilo)meters and returned after roaming around.

Manavpreet Kaur tasting Odisha Gupchu in Bhubaneswar

That night, we were working up to 2 AM I think. Ramjit Tudu who worked both for Santhali Wikipedia and Odia Wikipedia came at around 4.30 that morning.

Day 1:

Day 1 of the Bhubaneswar Wikimania started with heavy rainfall again. We had planned to start the event by 9.30 am, but due to heavy rain, most of our Wikimedians couldn't come in time. Mrutyunjay bhai and Sashank bhai reached by train and then others also joined and we started the meeting.

After the introduction session, the guest for the event, Manoj Kumar Mishra, the IT Secretary of Odisha joined us and we discussed lots of things and proposed some ideas for some collaborations with the government of Odisha.

Bhubaneswar Wikimania Cake

He was present for the cake cutting ceremony where the youngest wikimedians like Prateek Pattnaik and Ramjit Tudu cut the cake and Manoj sir left.

Wikimania Bhubaneswar

After that, we had our lunch and then discussed on the Community and some other kinds of stuff related to the Odia Wikimeians User Group.

Manav had discussed the Wikimedia Movement and described her role at the WMF. Some wikimedians also shared their experience. And the day 1 ended with a group photo for the news distribution.

After finishing everything it was my duty to contact the media persons for the news publication. Mrutyunjay bhai and Sashank bhai helped me to write news in Odia and then circulated the news for publication. It was published on two news portals like Dhenkanal Updates and KNews as well as in Prameya newspaper.

I met Nasim bhai after 7 years and Aditya bhai after 6 years. So, that night we had a long conversation with all.

Day 2:

The rainfall had increased as compared to the previous day, so the other wikimedians who promised to come on Sunday, couldn't join us. But Dr. Subas Chandra Rout joined the event for while with his son Sithikantha Rout, who is also a Wikimedian.

Before starting the sessions, I recorded a podcast with Murtyunjay Bhai for Gapufy, and you can listen to it on Spotify, Gaana, JioSaavanAmazon Music, and on YouTube.

Subas sir shared his experience and then, we took a group photo with the Wikimania T-Shirt and also recorded the "Happy Birthday Wikidata" video. Sir left within an hour due to his health issues and the meeting continued. We discussed the issues we're facing on Odia Wikipedia and Snthali Wikimedians Ramjit and Durga shared their issues also.

Sangram Keshari Senapati with Mrutyunjay Kar and Dr. Subas Chandra Rout at Wikimania 2022, Bhubaneswar

As per everyone's approval, we got another admin for Odia Wikipedia, Soumendra bhai. Then, discussed the future plans as well as the community strategy.

After finishing lunch, it was time to end the session. And our local Wikimania ended with the same format followed by the Global event. Some of the Wikimedians joined Manav mam and ended the event with some steps of Odia Folk Songs. And we took another group photo before leaving the room.

Wikimania Bhubaneswar

After grabbing everything from that conference hall and saying bye to everyone it was time to distribute the news again. Manavpreet helped me to draft the news in English and Subha bhai shared the mail id for the newspapers. It took almost 3 hours to send and had a chat with them over call. But, nobody had published the news, because on 15th August, they got lots of ads and for news, there was no space.

Somehow we managed to contact some other portals and some digital news channels published some news videos on Social Media.

Any event couldn't finish without Rasagola and Chhenapoda. So after dinner, Chinu took Manav to the market and grabbed some Baked Rasagola for us. Manav was happy about the event and for the taste of Rasagola.

After the Event:

On the 15th of August, in the morning we joined the flag hoisting ceremony of the hotel, and then it was time to say bye to Manav. Chinu and I accompanied her to the Airport and she left for Chandigarh. Then, we both left for our home.

83 Movie: The History Recreated Successfully

Sangram Keshari Senapati March 23, 2022 0
83 Movie: The History Recreated Successfully
83 Movie: The History Recreated Successfully

When Kapil Dev lifted the ICC Cricket Worldcup in 1983, I wasn't in this world. Actually, I came here after 12 years, but the 83 movie plays the role of a time machine and took me to that time and kept me there for some hours, days.

Kapil Dev and Ranveer Singh in 83 Movie

Yesterday, finally I watched the 83 Movie on OTT and I could say, what a movie it is. For the 1st time, when I watched the trailer, I was thrilled and after watching the movie, I'm speechless.

I was searching Ranveer Singh but found Kapil Dev there and surprisingly the Legend Kapil Dev was also there sitting in the audience. The movie is around 2 hours and 48 minutes long and I was looking for some more clips.

Kapil Dev teaching his style of cricke to Ranveer Singh

The way every character portrayed their role, is really commendable and I should have watched the movie in 3D for the real-time experience.

The creators worked really hard to recreate every moment from the shots of Kapil Dev while breaking the world record to running from the stadium, lifting the WorldCup. They have placed some real clips which made the movie realistic.
